pending further notice

(still under construction)

"Hannah Arendt claimed that all political action requires „the space of appearance“: „..action and speech can create a space between the participants which can find its proper location almost anywhere and anytime. It is the space of appearance in the widest sense of the word, namely, the space where I appear to others as others appear to me, where men exist not merely like other living or inanimate things but make their appearance explicitly.“ (Hannah Arendt, The Human Condition)

The work pending further notice focuses on different „spaces of appearance“, with an emphasis on social movements who fight for their voice and place in public space. The visual notes show a Black Panther ́s Party newspaper archive, a rally for the 20th anniversary of the LA riots and the police brutality against Rodney King, the Occupy movement in LA, Google maps ́views of the Californian-Mexican border as well as a set of playing cards produced during the Iraq war.

Observations on connections between history, politics and image production are shown both with own photographs, videos and news-recordings, screenshots and archival material. Through juxtapositions of the different elements the question arises how history is visible and audible or made invisible and inaudible in present times.

The title of the work pending further notice refers to an openness: not to consider history as something static and complete but to understand history as a process with the potentiality to intervene and change.
